Normally movie tie-in games aren’t very good, but we were pleasantly surprised with Angry Birds Rio in our review, even awarding the game 5 stars. More than just a Rio re-skin of the original game, it actually contained a few new elements and improvements that made it almost feel like a full-fledged sequel.

In following with Rovio’s practice of adding plenty of new levels to the original Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons, they have released a trailer for the first update that is set to hit for Angry Birds Rio, subtitled “Beach Volleyball”:

Rovio has stated on their Facebook page that this new update is set to hit sometime this week. If you’ve been enjoying Angry Birds Rio as much as we have, then keep your eyes peeled for an App Store update badge these next few days to check out the new Beach Volleyball levels.

If you didn’t know there’s also an official downloable Angry Birds version for MAC, Windows XP and Windows 7 users, the control and rather the same in the web version.

What’s the catch here? well, there are still 15 levels more, but these will be made available in July, the original release date for Carnival Upheaval. If Carnival Upheaval appears locked in your app, that is probably because you need to finish the Beach Volley update first.

How to Play Angry Birds on Google Plus?

Of course, in order to play it, you need to own a google account, if you don’t, go create a gmail account now. Only after that you will be able to obtain a Google+ account. It’s worth noticing that if you have an old gmail account you will have higher chances of obtaining access to the social platform. If you can’t register, you will need an invitation from someone who already have Google Plus.

• Sign in to your gmail account and then visit this link to get access to Google+.
• You’ll probably won’t see the game icon at the very beginning of the page, but you can activate it by visiting the Angry Birds page on Google+ here. The icon is located between the Circles button and the “Find People” search bar. Beofre you play you need to agree with the Privacy and Permissions. Click on “Allow Access” and you will be granted access to Angry Birds Google+
• After you first play Angry Birds Google Plus, you will always find the game by clicking on the games button and find your list of Google+ games on the left sidebar.
• Since you need friends (and lots of them) in order to unlock the Teamwork episodes, you might just want to join the AngryBirdsOnline circle on Google+. Click on this page with further instructions and use the +1 button on that page, that way you will be included in the list so we, and other Angry Birds friends can add you to our circles to play.

How to Unlock the Teamwork Episodes on Angry Birds Google Plus

There are two main types of Teamwork Episode levels. The amount of levels unlocked will depend on how many friends you are actually playing with, and also how successful they are at getting stars.

1. 1
   “Friends’ Stars” Levels: For each of these levels, you are required to gather a certain amount of stars betweeen you and your Google+ contacts that are currently playing Angry Birds. For instance, if you want to play the fourth level, you need to obtain a total of 4000 stars to unlock it, that only means you need plenty of contacts on Angry Birds Google+.
2. 2
   “Friends Playing” Levels: These levels might be easier to unlock. You basically need to invite friends and get them to accept the invitation to play Angry Birds on Google+. Our suggestion is that you send an invite to all the contacts on this same page, (read instructions on the page to find out how to add them to your contact list in the first place)

We already explained how the Teamwork episodes are unlocked, but there’re more “social goodies” on this Angry Birds special edition.

Within all levels, there’s a counter on the top right corner of the screen, that includes both your score, and the highest score reached by any of your contacts playing Angry Birds, you will certainly play the level many times trying to beat the best score.

The last social aspect worth mentioning is the ability to “shout” to any stream or circle by clicking the bullhorn icon. You either use it when pausing the game and using it through the leaderboard, or just after you pass any level (this time the screen is indeed a bit different from all other Angry Birds versions, since it includes a leaderboard with your position among your contacts and the chance to publish your score to your circle). The bullhorn icon won’t appear until you actually pass the level once in the first place. Check the screenshots below.

This is the second platform to include a leaderboard for Angry Birds, besides Game Center for iOS devices. It basically tells your score on per level on an individual basis and your position within your friends in that level.

Since all your scores and progress are stored in Google servers, you don’t have to worry at all about losing any file related to them. You are also able to log in from any browser on different computers as long as you log in with the same Google account.
